MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The national outbreak of a rare form of fungal meningitis has a Minnesota patient worried.

Melissa Stevens of Maple Grove says she plans to get tested to see if the disease might be the cause of her increased head and neck pain. Stevens received an injection in August at a pain clinic that received a steroid product linked to the outbreak.

The 39-year-old weight loss coach and fitness instructor has suffered frequent headaches and neck pain since she was in a car accident about five years ago, and she says she knows those can also be symptoms of meningitis.

Minnesota has three confirmed cases out of the 91 confirmed cases in nine states.

Minnesota health officials have been contacting people who might have been injected with the recalled steroid.
