Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) -- Teams of families in Grand Forks are taking part in a new event, it's somewhat of a fitness scavenger hunt.
Ground UP adventures hosted its first Extreme North Dakota Family Adventure race. The race started at Lincoln Park and sent racers to different checkpoints throughout the greenway.
Some checkpoints required racers to get off of their bikes and run, while other checkpoints required a boat ride. Each group got two hours of exercise while trying to find their way to the different checkpoints using maps and a compass.
Jay Grijalva with Ground Up Adventures says, "In addition to the physical challenge it makes you think. You want to think about how do I go from checkpoint one to checkpoint two. Is the straightest line the best way or should I stay on the trail where it's a little bit easier to walk or to ride my bike."
