Hillsboro, ND (WDAY TV) -- A Hillsboro family is trying to pick up the pieces after losing their home to a fire this morning.

Firefighters were fast, but by the time they got on scene, there wasn't much they could do. The details have not been released but investigators are somewhat certain of where the fire started.

Andrew Thompson/2nd Assistant Chief Hillsboro FD:"We believe it started in the laundry room."

Three people were in the house at the time of the fire, a mother and her two sons. All three were able to escape with no injuries.

Ray Weber/Hillsboro Police Chief: "Her and her sons are fine, that's the main thing. We can always replace the house and ya know a lot of her belongings, pictures can't be replaced but our main concern is the family is fine."

Firefighters arrived on the scene within three minutes but by that time the house was already engulfed in flames.

Andrew Thompson/2nd Assistant Chief Hillsboro FD:"There wasn't much we could do at that time other than I guess control the damage."

Ray Weber/Hillsboro Police Chief:"This is a total loss. It's totally gutted inside the house. I mean there's no furniture left, no belongings left."

The two sons attend Hillsboro High School and their mother is a Social worker. The Red Cross along with friends have offered them help but more is still needed.

Ray Weber/Hillsboro Police Chief: "Anybody that want to help them, they're more than welcome to call.

If you would like to help the family, you can call the Hillsboro Police Department at 636-4441. Also, an account is set up at the Dakota Heritage Bank.
