Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- North Dakota Republicans brought in a political powerhouse to rally voters and heat up what looks to be a tight race for the state's open Senate seat.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie ripped into Democratic Senate Candidate Heidi Heitkamp at a GOP rally today. The push for momentum could be timely,
the latest poll shows Heitkamp is 4 points ahead of Berg.
New Jersey's Governor brought some extra spark to a GOP rally in Fargo.
Chris Christie gave his support to local Republican candidates.
Christie: "We may be thousands of miles apart geographically but we are together philosophically. We know where this country has to go."
He also fired into Democratic Candidate for Senate, Heidi Heitkamp.
Christie: "one thing we don't need in Washington, D.C. Is another person who thinks that Barack Obama is "amazing."
Christie then took aim at Heidi's brother, radio personality Joel Heitkamp, saying Heitkamp has made comments about him on air.
Christie: "so Joel, first off, if you're watching buddy - I don't give a damn what you think of me."
Most of Christie's speech focused on the local candidates, but he also drove in the point that local races can affect the entire nation.
Christie: "see, North Dakota has a chance to send a huge message to America."
Some of North Dakota's republican candidates also addressed the crowd, encouraging them to ramp up support in the last four weeks
of the election.
Berg: "We are going to make Washington live by North Dakota values rather than make North Dakota live with Washington's mistakes."
Heidi Heitkamp's campaign released this statement in response. Saying Representative Berg is hiding behind surrogates, playing a game of hide and seek when it comes to debating the issues.
And that Governor Christie is attacking her because he can't defend Berg's record of voting party lines.
