MOORHEAD – The third fire in seven months at the Pactiv plant here today caused little damage.
The Moorhead Fire Department responded around 6:30 a.m. to Pactiv, a plant at 3010 42nd St. S. that manufactures food service and food packaging products.
“It was not much of a fire,” said Assistant Fire Chief Greg Doeden.
The fire started in an oven and spread to the smoke stacks, Doeden said.
The oven itself had a fire extinguishing system, so firefighters only had to extinguish burning embers in the smoke stacks, Doeden said. They put out the embers with multiple dry chemical extinguishers.
They also sent firefighters to the roof to make sure the fire hadn’t spread there.
Firefighters were on scene for about an hour and a half.
Pactiv has had two other fires in the past seven months.
Last March, firefighters battled a blaze and flareups at the plant for two days. Moorhead Fire Chief Rich Duysen said it was the largest fire he’d seen in nearly 20 years.
In August, a small fire at the plant caused minor damage.
