Dilworth, MN (WDAY TV) -- Our southern part of the valley missed the heavy snow fall, but the early morning commute became a nightmare for many when thousands were left without power, as heavy snow fell.

About 6500-X-cel customers were without electricity for about two hours this morning. A pole on fire in downtown Fargo was to blame for some of the outages.

It is one thing to start your morning facing wind and snow. It is a whole different day, when you add a power outage to the mix.

As traffic from the east poured into Dilworth during the morning commute, portable stop signs controlled traffic. The town was dark, without power.

Tony Johnson/Dilworth Stop N' Go: "Got pretty dark in here and can't really pump any fuel or run credit cards without power."

Tony Johnson's Stop and Go couldn't sell gas or treats. Started to get a little chilly, but not that bad. The pumps and cash registers didn't have juice.

But as we stood on highway 10, the power came on.

Customers came into Tony's store and the wait continued as everything got re-calculated.

Tony: "Just waiting for the machines to re-boot and looks like the pumps outside looks like they are back up so less than 5 minutes."

Otter Tail Power also reported outages in the northern end of the valley, including the town of Karlstad that battled fires Tuesday.
