Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- Police say it took character and honesty for a Moorhead man to turn in a large diamond he found.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, discovered the diamond in the Holiday Mall parking lot near Little Caesar's.
A jeweler identified it at just under one carat. The diamond is worth about seven-thousand dollars.
Police hope to return it to its rightful owner.
Lt. Tory Jacobson with the Moorhead Police says, "what's interesting here is that in this particular piece of property, there's an identification number that's very discreet on there, it's something they needed a special magnifying glass for. But, it's an identification number specific to this diamond."
The diamond can only be claimed with that identification number.
