Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - High school students are taking the concept of living green to a whole new level.

They were part of the day-long 2012 Metro Area Youth Summit.

More than 200 high schoolers from Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo spent the day learning about green transportation, local and global agriculture and other environmental concerns.

But it's not your typical green conference.

They moved away from the familiar concept of recycling to topics like urban sprawl.

Anjali Lall, Youth Summitt Director: “There's a breadth of information out there on the environment. For example, when you're thinking of cities, New York City for example, you might think it's polluted and dirty. But when you consider urban sprawl, it's actually a greener city in some sense, because there are more people.”

The youth summit is an annual event, planned entirely by high school students. Each year they spend a day learning about an issue that impacts our community.
