Fort Ransom, ND (WDAY TV) -- The Sheriff says he can't remember the last time there was a murder case in Ransom County. It's left the close-knit town in a state of shock.
We spoke with several people in and around Fort Ransom, most of whom know of Jodi Lindvall, but nobody knew many details about this mother accused of murder.
And it's left the entire community wondering how something like this could happen in their town.
Ardell Rasmusson: "Don't seem real, never have nothing like that in these small communities."
Ardell Rasmusson has lived in Fort Ransom all but nine of his 74-years. He says it's a quiet, peaceful place.
Rasmusson: "It's a nice community, I Like it here or I wouldn't stay."
Kenneth Grothe: "Very traditional, old, rural community."
Many people we spoke with were unable to put the situation into words, simply calling it an outright tragedy.
Grothe: "This sure will throw everybody."
Kenneth Grothe is related to the Lindvall family. Says something like this is the last thing he would ever expect.
But for now, Jodi Lindvall sits in Barnes County Jail, accused of murdering her 22-month-old child.
Grothe: "It, I don't know, it's hard to believe, it's unbelievable really."
The state is still waiting on the autopsy results. It's unknown if Lindvall has an attorney yet. She faces the possibility of life in prison without parole if convicted.
