FARGO – Fire broke out this morning inside a semi undergoing repairs at Freightliner, triggering the sprinkler system and causing an estimated $15,000 to $20,000 in water and smoke damage to the shop, Assistant Fargo Fire Chief LeRoy Skarloken said.

The fire started about 6 a.m. inside the cab of a semi that was parked in the shop at 3440 36th St. S. for engine repairs, Skarloken said.

The sprinkler system held the fire in check until firefighters arrived and put it out, he said.

In addition to the mostly cosmetic damage to the shop, the semi’s cab and sleeper area were totaled, Skarloken said.

The cause of the fire wasn’t known.
