Suspect arrested in vandalism of Buffalo churches

BUFFALO, Minn. (AP) — Police in a community west of the Twin Cities say they've arrested a suspect for vandalizing a number of churches, citing "his anger with God."

Authorities say the 30-year-old man is suspected of breaking doors and stain glass windows at four churches and leaving inflammatory messages about religion and sexual orientation at two of them and two other church buildings in Buffalo.

Police Chief Mitchell Weinzetl says the suspect told investigators he was angry about personal issues and did not indicate any political motivation. Weinzetl tells the Star Tribune the messages on posters left at the four churches were "blasphemous and also included homosexual references." He declined to give specific examples.

The churches include St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Seventh-day Adventist, Hosanna Lutheran, Buffalo United Methodist, Zion Lutheran and Buffalo Presbyterian.
