Jamestown, ND (WDAY TV) - The hundreds of parishioners at St. James Basilica in Jamestown, are shaking their heads recently, at a group, handing out bizarre literature as people try to get to mass.
No one can figure out who they are or what their beef is with today's Catholic Church.
As members of North Dakota's oldest and first cathedral prepared to celebrate noon mass today there is confusion, frustration, and anger over this: a 7 page rant critical of the present day Catholic Church. A group has been handing out the literature to people coming to and leaving mass at St. James Basilica.
Father Al Bitz, St. James Basilica: “Really disturbs the members wondering if I am doing this, St. James, or the larger church. Confused and wondering all of that. “
One of the protestors was actually escorted from the basilica because he came inside and stood near the altar.
And for the church members what is so disturbing, is they don't quite understand all this rambling, they don't know who they are or where they are from.
Sonja Suko, Member of St. James: “I have read this and it is mumbo jumbo.”
Church member Sonja Suko is right. Pages of random, rambling sentences. Calling today's Catholic priests hypocrites. Arguing that since the Vatican Council II, Satan has managed to get into the priesthood. Talk these parishioners of St. James want to stop.
Suko: “They should respect our religion as we do theirs.”
Jamestown Police is now aware of the protestors. No arrests have been made because no one is sure where these people come from or when they might show up again.
Of course we don't like them but it won't deter us from coming.
The literature does not have any address or name of organization for those responsible for handing it out.
