18-year-old NDSU student is killed by train in Fargo

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Family, friends, and NDSU students are mourning tonight, the loss of a classmate who was run over by the Amtrak train.

Friends tell us the victim is 18-year-old Colby Anderson, who just graduated from Fargo North.

The accident happened in North Fargo around 3 this morning. The tracks here are just west of NDSU's campus, near 12th avenue and Dakota Drive. He was crossing at an unmarked part of the tracks with 3 friends when the incident happened.

Lt. Joel Vettel with the Fargo Police says, "one of the things we will consider if alcohol was a factor in the case, as it appears to be, and how alcohol was obtained by an 18-year-old."

The Amtrack passenger train was held up for awhile, as police investigated.
