Bismarck, ND (WDAY TV) -- North Dakota legislators will soon know if the states projected 1.6 billion dollar surplus is for real.

The Legislature's Budget Section was briefed on the numbers this week. Some in that group are worried the numbers are too optimistic. But previous surplus estimates have turned out accurate.

House Majority Leader Al Carlson warned lawmakers to not get too excited about the numbers.

St. Representative Al Carlson says, "we should seriously look at going back on those, taking a hard look at what we have for a stabilization fund, as well as how we are going to view our commitment to property tax relief."

The projection counts on oil production to continue rising.
