(WDAY TV) -- The D-G-F American Legion baseball team has come under a lot of turmoil lately after it was kicked out of last months state championship baseball tournament.
And now, the school could soon pull its sponsorship. The team was kicked out after qualifying for Minnesota's Division Two State Championship game. This after multiple on and off field incidents.
Now the superintendent will soon recommend to the school board that it pull its sponsorship for the Summer legion team.
The D-G-F Superintendent says the school district provided 10-thousand dollars this year to the Legion baseball team and has covered at least 50-percent of the programs budget in the past.
While the incidents fueled the fire, the superintendent says it is not the primary reason for the recommendation.
The Legion Baseball team is the only summer program the district sponsors and he says it's not fair to other teams.
Bryan Thygeson/DGF Superintendent: "you can do it until it becomes an issue and I'd rather be proactive with it and lets have that conversation. If we are going to sponsor it officially, lets open up the door that, if we are going to do this, we better be prepared to sponsor some other activities."
Thygeson also says the district has to consider its budget. Last year it was more than 100-thousand dollars in the red.
The recommendation will happen at this Monday's school board meeting.
