Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) -- When you lose your starting quarterback and top wide receiver to a division one school, you'd think your team would drop the following season, not the case in Detroit Lakes, where the Lakers haven't missed a beat.

D-L is 3-0 on the season, ranked 6th in Class 4A, led by Michael Herzog at quarterback and improving defense, and the fast start hasn't surprised them.

Flint Motschenbacher, Detroit Lakes head coach, says, "We lose good players every year, creates an opportunity for them waiting behind in line, so it's their opportunity now, it's their turn."

Kirk McLeod, Detroit Lakes Sr. wide receiver, says, "We lost three really good players, our QB, RB, receiver, really good lineman, we stepped in this year I think we've had the best line we've had in a long time ,our quarterbacks doing just fine taking over for Joe's spot, our receivers are playing well."

The Lakers travel to Staples-Motley tomorrow, we'll be live in Moorhead where the undefeated Spuds host Fergus Falls, join us for First Down Friday.
