Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Children of military families can struggle in school and life when a parent is deployed or returns home injured.

A two day workshop is addressing those needs in Fargo. Educators, mental health professionals, and National Guard representatives learned ways to help children thrive during those tough times.

The goal is to create a network within the community to support those children.

Susan Heiligman with the Military Child Education Coalition says, "their lives may change due to their parents' military experience. So, we wanna talk about ways to help them learn to cope better, to be resilient, no matter what is going on."

More than two million military children in the United States have had a parent deployed.
