Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A gift from the James Green fund will provide tens of thousands of healthy meals for children over the next five years.

The Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation presented $100,000 to the Great Plains Food Bank's BackPack Program at Madison Elementary today.

The program provides a backpack full of healthy food to children every Friday afternoon.

78-percent of the children at Madison Elementary qualify for free or reduced lunches - that is the highest in the Fargo School District.

Steve Sellent, Great Plains Food Bank Director: “Today is about providing another critical tool in what I know is an already incredible effort at this school to turn those challenges into the best possible future for every child here today.”

An NDSU research team will evaluate the program's impact through the next five years.
