Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) -- Tragic Statistics for our country. Every 15 minutes someone commits suicide, and someone tries to every 40 seconds.
Today, Altru held its second annual walk for suicide prevention in Grand Forks. Over 100 people helped raise money for support groups and suicide awareness programs.
Organizers say suicide is more common than we think but it's a subject that people tend to never talk about.
Mike Dewald, Altru Pysch., says, "Suicide today is still a stigma subject, it's taboo to talk about. Today's walk gives us an opportunity to make people more aware that it happens and that it can be prevented."
Suicide is currently the 9th leading cause of death in North Dakota
