Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- College students throughout Fargo-Moorhead are taking back the night to break the silence surrounding sexual violence.

Organizers say "Take Back the Night" is an opportunity for the entire NDSU community to take a stand against violence and show support for survivors.

Dozens of students gathered at NDSU's Festival Concert hall to make signs and learn more about the several campus organizations aiming to stop this problem. The night concluded with students marching through campus and holding a candlelight vigil.

Mercedes Lee with the Violence Prevention Educators says, "we know that sexual violence does occur here and so we want to create that awareness and educate people so that if it does happen, they know they have the resources and the support system that they need."

As a sign of solidarity, MSUM also held its Take Back the Night event today.
