Wahpeton, ND (WDAY TV) - One day after former NDSCS football player Jamie Kuntz said he was dismissed from the team for being gay, the school gave its side of the story.

Kuntz claims he was dismissed from the Wildcats because he was kissing his boyfriend in the press box, where he was videotaping the game. Kuntz originally said the man was his grandfather, then admitted it was his boyfriend.

Kuntz told us yesterday he believes if he was kissing a girl he'd still be on the team. Athletic Director Stu Engen responded to that claim.

Stu Engen, NDSCS Athletic Director: “My conversation with Coach Parsons, we didn't talk about other man's alleged to be 65 years of age. Our conversation consisted of if this was a heterosexual incident, would we come to the same conclusion, and Coach Parsons answer was yes, Mr. Kuntz simply and plainly failed to perform his duties as assigned and was ongoing distraction to the game.”

Kuntz withdrew from school after he was dismissed from the team.
