Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The Bison football team heads into a bye week feeling good after knocking off another FBS program Saturday night, but that doesn't mean this will be a relaxing week for Craig Bohl's bunch.
He has to replace his starting strong safety, Colten Heagle, a preseason All-Conference selection.
Heagle tore his ACL late in the game Saturday night, on a play where he wasn't hit. Heagle finished third on the team in tackles last year with 82. He's known as one of the best run stoppers in the country.
Craig Bohl, 10th year NDSU Head Coach: “You're losing what I think is a great defensive player. But, in the midst of it we'll have to look at configuring our defense to make sure we fill that spot up. Are we confident we can do that? Yeah. Is it a tall order? You bet it is. And I don't want to just say as a coach ‘Oh no. We don't have Heagle,’ but you have to have a plan as coaches. You just don't take that type of guy out of there and say ‘Hey, we're going to be fine.’ We have to work to get better from that standpoint.”
Senior Bobby Ollman will replace Heagle, he started 3 games last season, Bohl added that tight end Garrett Bruhn, feared lost for the season with an ACL tear, will be back sometime this year.
The latest FCS coaches poll came out today. NDSU remains on top, receiving 24 out of 26 first place votes, Montana State moves up to 3, Northern Iowa is in at 6, while Youngstown State clocks in at 8.
