(WDAY TV) -- 15 people have now been formally charged with voter fraud in connection with a scandal that blocked two citizen initiatives from getting on the November ballot in North Dakota.

Of the 15 charged, 10 are current NDSU football players and three are former players. They were all hired to circulate petitions for the initiatives. And allegedly faked many of the signatures submitted, enough to have the petitions thrown out.

According to court documents,a number of them told investigators they forged the names in order to meet quotas and to achieve bonus pay.

The 15 are expected to appear in court October 2nd.
