Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The future of horse racing in Fargo is in the hands of state lawmakers. The state racing commission met Thursday and said racing depends on its own budget.

Lawmakers need to pass the commission's budget in the next legislative session in order to continue horse racing in Fargo and Belcourt. The commission allocates money for purses and the promotion of races.

A nonprofit runs the Fargo races. Even though it made $120,000 in profits this summer, it still has $2 million in debt.
