Pelican Rapids, MN (WDAY TV) - The wait is almost over for the Minnesota high schools. The season starts for some teams tonight. Pelican Rapids has just another 24 hours to go, and they're ready to face the challenge.

Dave Haugen starts his 16th year as head coach of the Vikings with high optimism. Pelican Rapids is coming off a 3-6 season, but brings back several key seniors, hoping that experience can bring them to the top of the Heart O'Lakes standings.

Dave Haugen – 16th Year Head Coach: “Ultimately, you want to be in that section championship game. But, to get there we're going to start by setting a goal to win the home games. We'll have a goal of hosting a playoff game and if those things fall into place, then you can start to look for a conference championship and maybe a section championship.”

Ian Johnson – Pelican Rapids Senior OL/DL: “There's a lot of stuff we can learn from what we did last year. We have a lot of returning players too that are leaders and they know what we're up against. So, we're working hard to fix what we didn't do last year.”

We know the players are ready and so are we - Perham and Pelican Rapids, we're live tomorrow night

at 6 and 10.
