Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Imagine serving your country during World War Two on a Harley Davidson. The man in this story is a 94 year-old sparkplug who will soon be honored as the oldest living Military Police army veteran in the country. Gene Stevens has been invited to a National Gathering, where he will be the guest of honor.

It is hard to keep up with Gene Stephens. Wearing an old MP uniform, Gene is not only physically fit at age 94, his memory and mind operate like a computer hard drive.

Gene Stephens – Oldest MP Alive: “Oh yeah, get on this thing then get on one of those today and there’s a world of difference.”

Gene was drafted back in 1941, just as the Army started its MP program. During World War II, Gene served as an MP in England and North Africa, escorting the war's biggest names - generals, even Eisenhower.

Gene Stephens: “This is General Mark Clark and that is Montgomery. Eisenhower was always extra polite, we thought.”

There is the day Gene Stephens cracked down on a speeding car.

Gene Stephens: “I pulled this car over and an aide jumped out and came around and said, ‘do you know who is in this car? It’s Eisenhower.’ I said, ‘OK, fine no problem.’”

General Patton.

Gene Stephens: “I had a lot of experience with him. He was in Algiers, and he took charge. He’d snap when he wanted it done, and it got done.”

As an MP, Gene's job was to protect the world's leaders. He saw de Gaule, even Frank Sinatra. It was a great time in his life.

Gene Stephens: “I was just 21 years-old. I did not know any better, it was great, really exciting.”

In just two weeks, Gene, who spends his summers in lakes country and winters in Vegas, will be honored by fellow Mp's.

Gene Stephens: “I am the oldest living MP.”

He has stayed in touch with other World War II Vets who were MPs, but they are all gone.

Gene Stephens: “We are running out of them right now.”

This Texas born, business entrepreneur was happy to serve his country, and we were happy to have him.

Gene Stephens: “And I would do it again. I threatened to re-up but everyone laughs at me.”

How does Gene stay so sharp? Try 18 holes of golf 4 days a week, along with a little Ping Pong and Gin Rummy.
