Drain tiling convention begins in Hankinson

Hankinson, ND (WDAY TV) - It's been a debate for years: does drain tile add to flooding or not? The answer may be, it depends. A drain tiling conference gets underway tonight at the Dakota Magic Casino in Hankinson.

New research will be presented at the conference shows that in some cases drain tiling could actually reduce flooding.

Chuck Fritz – International Water Institute: “We can and we could describe scenarios where unmanaged or uncontrolled subsurface drainage could negatively impact peak flows on the river. We also said that if it was properly managed we you could operate tile drainage to have a positive impact.”
