Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) - Opening night for Minnesota schools is just three days away. For tonight's stop on our high school football tour we head back out to lakes country.
The Joe Mollberg era is over in Detroit Lakes, and head coach Flint Mostchenbacher has been busy replacing a strong senior class that led the Lakers to a 7-3 season.
Quarterback Michael Herzog filled in for Mollberg in four games last year. But, the coach says dealing with inexperience is nothing new.
Flint Motschenbacherd, Detroit Lakes Head Coach: “We lose good players every year. It just creates an opportunity for the next guy that's been waiting in line behind those guys. It's there opportunity, it's their turn now. That's just how high school works. Our guys have prepared and done everything we've asked. We're pretty optimistic about our season.”
Kirk McLeod, Detroit Lakes Sr. WR/DB: “Our quarterbacks are doing just fine to take over Joe's spot. Our receivers are playing well. We're looking good.”
