Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The long wait is over for the Bison football team as they've reached game week to begin the 2012 season. NDSU has a championship banner celebration planned before the game Saturday night.

And then the actual defense of the title begins against Robert Morris.

It seems hard to believe that just two years ago NDSU was coming off a 3-8 season, with Craig Bohl facing questions of how many games he had to win to keep his job. A lot can change in just a couple of seasons.

Craig Bohl, NDSU Head Coach: “I can remember when I first talked to Gene Taylor, about where our program could be set up checklist, sell out all the games, sometimes sounds like a political promise, not to bash our politicians, but it's like ‘ok we can do this, now we're doing it.” The thing I'm personally most excited about opening ballgame, there's always one new shining star. Some guy exceeds expectations, as a football coach that's always exciting to see.”

Bohl also announced that Montevideo native and offensive tackle Jeff Jerve's career is over after recurring knee injuries.
