Future of horse racing in Fargo to be discussed

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Racing Commission has scheduled a meeting on Thursday to talk about the future of horse racing in Fargo.

The North Dakota Horse Park hosted two weekends of racing this summer, after a two-year shutdown due to financial problems. Commission Director Winston Satran tells The Forum newspaper that the races went well but that does not ensure that racing will return next year.

Horse Race North Dakota President Wes Heinert says the horse park is about $120,000 in the black after this summer's races. But the North Dakota Horse Park Foundation, the nonprofit that owns the track, remains heavily in debt.
