(WDAY TV) -- No more sleeping in; no more staying up late. Today was the first day of school in North Dakota.
The halls of Fargo's Carl Ben Eielson Middle School were already packed well before classes began this morning. Students arrived early to get settled in, find their lockers, and greet friends. Many told us they're excited for what the new school year will bring.
Zach Thompson - 8th Grade Student: "Seeing all my friends and everything. Seeing the new teachers, and getting on a new team, and lockers and stuff.
Ella Pflipsen - 8th Grade Student: "Meeting new people and seeing the friends that I didn't get to see during the summer."
Overall enrollment on the first day is 10,857 students. That is up more than 200 students from last year. The strongest growth occurred south of Main Avenue, while schools north of Main Avenue showed a decline.
