MINOT, N.D. (AP) — The Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract to complete repairs to the Souris River levee system damaged by historic flooding last summer.

The $469,000 contract went to Ceres Environmental Services Inc. of Brooklyn Park, Minn. The corps says the project will restore multiple levee sites in the Minot and Burlington areas. Construction is to be done by the end of the year.

The corps has spent nearly $3 million fixing the levee system since the 2011 flood. The agency says that once the final repairs are done, residents will have the same flood protection they had before the flood.

Separately, U.S. Sen. John Hoeven says the corps is giving Minot $1.9 million for sanitary sewer repairs that he says are essential in the effort to develop new housing.
