ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota state senator who shares a district with Rep. Kerry Gauthier, the lawmaker involved in a sex scandal with a 17-year-old boy, is urging Gauthier to skip a special session on flood relief for his district and surrounding areas.

Sen. Roger Reinert, a Duluth Democrat, said Wednesday that Gauthier would distract from the flood recovery effort.

Reinert says Gauthier instead could become a focus for majority Republicans, who might censure him or even block him from taking his seat in the House chamber. Reinert said he hopes Gauthier "would take that day off."

Gauthier, a Democrat from Duluth, has made no public comment since his liaison with the teen at a rest stop became public last week.
