(WDAY TV) -- Adrian Peterson has done everything ahead of schedule in his rehab from ACL surgery, so when he was activated off the PUP list last week.

Optimism was high that he may be able to play in the preseason. Those thoughts were put to bed this afternoon when Leslie Frazier announced Peterson will not play at all before the season opener on September 9th.

Frazier says, "We think he's doing a good job, there are no setbacks, not reasont we're doing it, still like more time with him at practice, for some of the things we're doing, progression to get ready for the season, doesn't guarantee he'll be ready for Jacksonville, but what it does that it gives us more time to throw more things at him at practice and get him prepared."

Frazier added that Chris Cook is out for Friday's game with San Diego, so look for Josh Robinson to start at corner.
