Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- The District Commander of the Army Corps of Engineers says the Red River diversion project is on track and moving forward.

Colonel Michael Price says the design phase is complete. The next step is authorization from congress. If everything goes well, Price estimates construction could start late 2013.

Price says the diversion executive leadership council needs to develop a plan to educate the new congress on the project to keep it moving forward.

Michael Price - US Army Corps of Engineers: "Improve communication, and make sure we're all going towards the same end state and that's to get a diversion project built in Fargo Moorhead."

The diversion authority hopes the diversion will be done in 2021.
