Vote could increase 911 fee

West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - West Fargo commissioners are asking every citizen to take on a little more money each month to help save thousands of city dollars.

West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - West Fargo commissioners are asking every citizen to take on a little more money each month to help save thousands of city dollars.

The commission decided tonight they'll put a new 911 fee to a public vote come November.

The city has been eating more and more of the 911 service cost each year, it's now up to nearly $200,000 dollars.

Right now, every citizen with a phone pays $1 a month for the 911 service, if the vote passes, people will pay $1.50.

The dispatch is shared among the cities in the metro.

Jim Brownlee, City Administrator: “With the last change of the census our share of the dispatch center went up because it's based on population which is only fair and so our costs went up considerably and our 911 fees don't cover it.”

The fee is charged to you through your phone service provider.
