West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fargo Marathon coordinators made good today on a promise.
1,000 pairs of Nike tennis shoes were packed up and delivered to local elementary students. It's for students in Moorhead, Fargo and West Fargo who may not be able to afford new shoes.
Marathon coordinators said they'd donate the shoes if 10,000 runners showed up for the 5k. Blue Cross Blue Shield and Dakota Medical Foundation helped make this day happen.
Mark Knutson, Fargo Marathon: “Then you think ‘You know what. There are kids going back to school today who probably don't have shoes or they're going to be wearing flip flops into November, December.’ So I think we should feel really good about that.”
Knutson says next year they could get 15,000 participants for the 5k.
