Minnesota (WDAY TV) -- Minnesota has been named the top state for E-prescribing in a national survey.

The rankings of Surescripts annual awards are determined by measuring electronic prescribing use by physicians, pharmacies, and payers in each state.

E-Perscribing enables a provider to electronically send an accurate prescription from the clinic or hospital to a pharmacy. 61% of prescriptions in Minnesota were sent to drugstores electronically, the most in any state.

Dr. Heidi Twedt - Sanford Clinic Chief Medical Officer: "North Dakota is catching up quickly as you can see by the numbers. They almost did 250% increase in the number of pharmacies participating, and I think that's a good sign that even smaller pharmacies now are able to invest in the technology to bring this to the customer and the patient."

From June 2010 to July 2012, there has been a 42% increase in E-prescribing in North Dakota.
