Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) - One of the contenders for the Pine Title is out but not because he lost.

Shanley grad and current Bison Trent Olson had to withdraw from the tournament today because he found out he's been selected as an alternate to play at the US Amateur starting on Monday at Cherry Hills Golf Club in Denver.

Trent Olson, NDSU Sophomore Golfer: “About 3 days ago, I got the call from USGA. He said that I was the next guy to get in if one of the exempt players drops out. I was the first on the list of alternates. He called me on my way up here to the Pine to Palm and it was quite the birthday present. I'm just trying to qualify, make the field of 64 and see what happens.”

The qualifying begins on Monday, the top 64 advance to the match play just like the tourney Amy Anderson played in. Olson will be joined by his Bison teammate Bill Carlson who qualified last month.
