Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) - Amy Anderson had to survive 36 holes of qualifying the last two days at the US Women's Amateur but she did enough to advance into the match play portion.
She would face off against a rival Moriya Jutangarn, who beat the Oxbow native last year in this tournament.
The match was all square at the 16th green but Jutangarn pulls off some magic. She was runner-up at this event last year, the fabulous bunker shot, gets the roll and in. She wins the hole and goes 1 up with two to go.
Anderson responds. Nice second shot here at 17, this for birdie. It's enough for her to win the hole and we're all square.
After a perfect drive at 18 this is her second shot, just a wedge from this distance and she sticks it to within 3 feet of the pin.
All Anderson needs to do is make this and she's into the second round and she does just that. Anderson wins the last two holes to win the match 1 up.
Amy Anderson, Advances to the 2nd Round: “There's no easy first matches out here, the field is so good, but I played her last year, she beat me, so I knew going to be fight to the end either way, her missing her par putt was big, and then I stuffed it here on 18, that was a big shot.”
Anderson will face Lydia Ko tomorrow morning in the 2nd round.
