(WDAY TV) -- A member of the Barnes County Water Resource Board has been let go. The commission felt he was using his job for personal gain.

Board Manager Duane Lettenmaier was directly benefiting from a drain project, partially being paid for by taxpayers. The project was to clean out cattails blocking the drain, and backing up water onto his property.

The board set aside $10,000 for the project, but got a bill for more than $22,000. The project has since been terminated. Lettenmaier says he will not appeal the decision.
