GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The waiting is over for the University of North Dakota football team.
The squad that spent the last five years in NCAA limbo as part of a five-year transition period to Division I athletics is playing for keeps this season. UND is now eligible for the Football Championship Subdivision and playing its first season in the Big Sky Conference.
The team held its annual media day festivities Monday.
Head coach Chris Mussman says he expects a challenging initiation into the new league, but the team has been preparing for it for the past four seasons.
UND finished with an 8-3 record last year and earned a share of the Great West Conference title.
The team opens the season at home against South Dakota Mines on Aug. 30.
