Minnesota (WDAY TV) -- A typically meek -- playful creature is turning on swimmers in Minnesota lakes as of late...

In less than a month there have been 2 reports now of otter attacks. And the 3rd reported case this summer. The latest victim was swimming in a lake near McGregor -- in that case two otters left 18 bite marks across her body.

The other attack was just north of Duluth. That victim suffered 25 puncture marks, some 2 inches deep as the otter's fangs tore through her wetsuit.

A DNR rep says these attacks are extremely unusual, because otters are not generally an aggressive animal.

Victims were treated with antibiotics, rabies and tetanus shots as precaution.
