GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The University of North Dakota is hosting a party in conjunction with the planned landing of NASA's new robot rover on Mars.

The six-wheeled rover named Curiosity was launched last November and is scheduled to land on the surface of the red planet shortly after midnight Sunday. UND's Department of Space Studies is hosting several activities for the public Sunday night in conjunction with the landing. The UND party is sanctioned by NASA.

The $2.5 billion science project is aimed at helping determine if Mars' environment was once suitable for life. Curiosity will drill into rocks and soil in search of carbon and other elements.
