Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- An update to a story we brought you on Wednesday about allowing chickens as pets within Moorhead City limits.
Currently Moorhead has a code forbidding domestic chickens, turkeys, ducks, cows, horses...basically any kind of animal not your typical pet. One Moorhead woman is looking to change that ordinance to allow her to have chickens that would be used for their eggs.
A proposed change would have to come from a council member.. But so far City Manager Michael Redlinger says that hasn't happened.
Michael Redlinger/Moorhead City Mayor, says, "it's an activity that's prohibited right now under city ordinance, the keeping of domestic livestock within city limits, and so if there was a certain animal that was excluded then it would be taken out of the ordinance, so you would have to have the ordinance changed first in the city council level then it would be an allowable activity."
The ordinance would have to go through a few city council meetings before it would be approved.
