"Bought a paper today so I'm looking for a place to live."
Randy Gubeke has lived on the third floor apartment with his girlfriend for two years. He was at work last night when he heard the news.
Randy: "I had nine messages on my phone, what's going on, called back and they said The house is on fire, you need to come home quick, and i'm going yea you're kidding right."
After realizing it wasn't a joke, he rushed home, Now swifting through what's left of his smoke damaged stuff.
Randy: "All of our clothes smell terrible, hopefully we can take them to the cleaner and they can get it out, or I don't know if we just take them to the launder-mat."
He is thankful no one was hurt, and their dog and cat also made it out of the blaze safely.
Randy: "If someone would lose a life, that's a little something different, but thankfully, no body lost a life or anything, it's just possessions, which can be replaced."
The owner of the home is having a hard time today looking at all the fire damage, just about a year ago him and his brothers remodeled the basement.
Mark Splonskowski/Home owner's brother: "Painted the walls, we put new naughty pine on the inside and made it really nice."
The owners brother Mark who helped make over the basement says he is happy only walls and windows were ruined.
Mark: "It could have been a lot worse, main thing is that people were ok, nobody got hurt."
With all hands on deck cleaning up the burnt mess, Renters for now are left waiting for insurance to know if and when they will be able to move back in.
The Salvation Army and The Red Cross are assisting the families with a place to stay for now.
