Bridge inspection in Moorhead

Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- If you drove over the Center Avenue bridge today, you may have noticed the outside lanes were closed.
Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- If you drove over the Center Avenue bridge Thursday, you may have noticed the outside lanes were closed.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation was conducting a routine inspection for the 75 year-old bridge. Everything turned out normal and safe in today's inspection.
Fracture-critical bridges are inspected every five years, but the Center Avenue bridge is a little different.
Tom Trowbridge, Assistant City Engineer, says, "In this case, the bridge itself has redundancy, so it's not a fracture critical bridge, but it has pin and hangers, which are prone to sudden failure if they go bad."
