Picket line marks one year anniversary of American Cyrstal Sugar lockout

MOORHEAD, Minn. (WDAY TV) - Wednesday is the one year anniversary of the Union lockout of 1,300 workers at American Crystal Sugar.

MOORHEAD, Minn. (WDAY TV) - Wednesday is the one year anniversary of the Union lockout of 1,300 workers at American Crystal Sugar.

A few locked out workers were back on the picket line showing their frustration over the not so happy anniversary.

Workers we spoke to say no progress has been made because Crystal Sugar executives are not willing to negotiate.

The union has rejected the new contract three times.

Some workers have moved on to new jobs, but say if a fair offer is given they will gladly go back to work.

Becki Jacobson, Locked Out Worker: “Well I'm hoping that the company, and the farmers, and the growers, shareholders, everyone realizes that they need us. If they want to make a profit, they need us. So they need to, they need to start negotiating is what they need to do, and get us back there.”

American Crystal Sugar executives say as of now they need to focus on their product.

With the sugar beet harvest approaching, the company is focusing on their current workers to make sure the product is to the highest of standards, according to officials.

They say although the lock out is still on their minds, nothing has changed and their final offer stands.

They also say they are willing to schedule more talks with the union.
