CASSELTON, N.D. (WDAY TV) - The Cass County Summerfest Committee invited everyone to do the twist just before the annual grand parade.
The hope is to break the world record of people dancing the twist at one time.
Hundreds of people lined the streets of Casselton and twisted to the Chubby Checker song.
Even Governor Jack Dalrymple took part.
The current record stands in North Carolina with 1,706 people dancing.
Greg Kempel, Cass County Summerfest Committee: "We have one of the largest parades in the upper midwest, and we always like to have something fun to get the crowd going. This year we said 'well hey lets break the world record for the most people doing the twist.'"
Gov. Jack Dalfymple, (R) North Dakota: "We're going to have an opportunity to set the world record today, in the Guiness Book of World Records, the most people ever in one twist dance, and I can't believe that people actually have to be told what the twist is."
The governor will be happy, all of the twisters broke the world record with more than 2,700 people dancing.
