North Dakota energy: Renewables, roads, housing

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota advisory board says the state's energy policy should include money for roads, research, housing and regulation — as well as support for renewable energy.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota advisory board says the state's energy policy should include money for roads, research, housing and regulation — as well as support for renewable energy.

North Dakota Commerce Department director Al Anderson says the recommendations will be presented to the Legislature next year.

They're the product of the EmPower North Dakota Commission, which includes energy industry representatives. Anderson says they represent an update of existing policy.

The Dickinson Press reports Anderson spoke Thursday to a North Dakota legislative committee that's studying energy issues.

The commission's agenda says local governments affected by oil development should get a larger share of state oil tax collections.

The panel suggests expanding a state housing incentive fund and earmarking more money to research ways to use natural gas to make other products.
